| The LMVA Trail Maintenance Crew maintains the approximately 35 mile trail system in the Mount Laguna Recreation Area, making it safer and more enjoyable for hikers, mountain bikers and horseback travelers. Although our group painstakingly constructed the Big Laguna Trail and Indian Creek Trail, we are currently in maintenance mode. We are focusing on the Pacific Crest Trail, Big Laguna Trail and Sunset Trail which we maintain using our favorite trail tools to cut brush, remove rocks, widen trails, construct water drainage bars, repair signs and remove obstacles in the trails. We meet the second and fourth Saturdays of the month at 9:00 am at the Roost Volunteer Headquarters on Sunrise Highway. Safety is number one priority. All maintenance outings start with a brief safety refresher, and all trail crew members wear hard hats, sturdy boots, gloves, pants and long-sleeve shirts. The dust and heat can be intense, so ample water is key. Our Trail Crew is a great team endeavor, which shares a strong camaraderie and lots of fun. There is nothing like enjoying the beautiful environment, spotting secretive animals and birds soaring in the thermals, unearthing a variety of creatures while you work, and meeting interesting trail users during the day. Once a year, those qualifying spend a week in a neighboring Forest Service District doing special trail projects. Join us and experience the feeling of satisfaction a day working the trails can bring! Contact Jeannie at info@lmva.org and check our calendar for upcoming events. | |||||
